Forehead Reduction

Forehead reduction surgery, also known as hairline lowering surgery, involves a detailed and carefully planned process aimed at reducing the height of the forehead by advancing the hairline. The procedure typically begins with a thorough consultation to discuss the patient’s goals, assess their hair density, and evaluate their scalp flexibility. On the day of surgery, the patient is given local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. The surgeon then marks the new hairline and makes an incision along the marked area. The scalp is carefully separated from the underlying tissues, and the surgeon repositions the scalp forward to the new, lower hairline. Excess forehead skin is then trimmed away, and the incision is meticulously closed with fine sutures to minimize scarring.

Post-operative care is essential to ensure optimal healing and results. Patients are generally given instructions for home care, which may include keeping the head elevated, applying cold compresses to reduce swelling, and taking prescribed medications to manage pain and prevent infection. Stitches are typically removed within a week to ten days, and most patients can return to work and light activities within a few days. However, strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor the healing process and address any concerns. The final results, which reveal a more proportionate forehead and hairline, usually become evident after a few months, once swelling has completely subsided.
