Varicose Vein Treatment

Varicose vein treatment involves several procedures to remove or close off a vein that's diseased. The type of treatment recommended often depends on the severity of the condition, the patient's overall health, and their personal preference. Some of the commonly used procedures for treating varicose veins include sclerotherapy, laser treatment, vein stripping, phlebectomy, and endovenous ablation therapy.

In sclerotherapy, a doctor injects a solution into the affected vein, which causes it to scar and close, therefore rerouting blood to healthier veins. Laser treatment involves sending strong bursts of light onto the vein, making it slowly fade and disappear. Vein stripping is a surgical procedure where long varicose veins are removed. Phlebectomy involves making small punctures to remove smaller varicose veins. In endovenous ablation therapy, a thin tube (catheter) is inserted into the vein and heat is applied to the inside of the vein to close it permanently. The choice of procedure is dependent on the specifics surrounding each individual case.
