UroLift

The UroLift procedure is a minimally invasive treatment designed to alleviate symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a common condition in which the prostate gland becomes enlarged, leading to urinary difficulties. The procedure typically begins with the patient positioned and prepared under local or general anesthesia. A specially designed UroLift delivery device is inserted into the urethra via a cystoscope, a thin, flexible tube equipped with a camera. This device is used to deploy small, permanent implants that lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue away from the urethra, creating a more open and unobstructed passage for urine flow.

Once the implants are in place, the cystoscope and delivery device are carefully removed. The entire procedure usually takes less than an hour and is often performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return home the same day. The strategic placement of these implants helps relieve the urinary symptoms associated with BPH without cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue, thus preserving the ability to ejaculate. Recovery is generally swift, with many patients experiencing symptomatic relief within a few weeks and a low risk of sexual side effects compared to other surgical treatments for BPH.
