Teeth Cleaning

Teeth cleaning, also known as dental prophylaxis, is a routine procedure performed by a dental hygienist or dentist to maintain oral health and prevent dental issues. The process begins with a thorough examination of the oral cavity to identify any potential problems such as cavities, gum disease, or other oral health concerns. This is often followed by the removal of plaque and tartar using specialized tools. These deposits are mechanically scraped off the teeth, particularly in areas that are not easily reached by regular brushing and flossing. Ultrasonic scalers, which use vibrations to break down tartar, may also be employed. Once all visible plaque and tartar have been removed, the teeth are polished using a high-powered electric brush and a gritty toothpaste. This step helps to smooth out the surfaces of the teeth, making it more difficult for plaque to adhere and providing a clean, shiny finish.

The next phase of teeth cleaning involves flossing between the teeth to remove any debris and plaque that may be caught in the interproximal areas. This is typically followed by a thorough rinsing to wash away all loosened particles. Fluoride treatment may be applied as a final step to strengthen the enamel and provide added protection against tooth decay. The fluoride is either painted on the teeth as a varnish, brushed on in a gel form, or provided as a rinse. Throughout the procedure, the dental professional may provide personalized advice on maintaining good oral hygiene practices at home, including tips on brushing techniques, the importance of flossing, and dietary recommendations. Regular teeth cleaning sessions, typically recommended every six months, play a crucial role in preventing dental diseases and maintaining overall oral health.
