SMAS Facelift
SMAS Facelift
A SMAS facelift, also known as a superficial musculoaponeurotic system facelift, is a surgical procedure aimed at enhancing the appearance by tightening the loose skin and eliminating the wrinkles of the face and neck. The SMAS is a layer of tissues that covers, binds, and separates the deeper structures of the facial skin from the superficial muscle and fat. During the procedure, an incision is made along the hairline, from the temple to the earlobe. Then, the skin is lifted, allowing the surgeon to tighten the underlying SMAS layer.
Next, any excess tissue and skin are removed. The surgeon then repositions and tightens deeper facial tissues to add more youthfulness to the individual's appearance. Once this is done, the skin is re-draped over the new facial contours and stitched into place. This procedure can effectively correct sagging cheeks, smooth out deep wrinkles, and provide a more youthful, rejuvenating skin appearance. The specific techniques and extent of the surgery vary, according to the individual’s facial structure, personal goals, and the surgeon's preference.
