Skin Tag Removal

Skin tag removal is a minimally invasive procedure typically performed in a clinical setting by a healthcare provider. The first step involves a thorough examination of the skin tag(s) to determine the appropriate removal method. Common techniques include cryotherapy (freezing), cauterization (burning), excision (cutting), and ligation (tying off). The choice of technique depends on the size, location, and number of skin tags, as well as the patient's medical history and preferences. For example, cryotherapy involves applying liquid nitrogen to freeze the skin tag, causing it to fall off after a few days. Excision, on the other hand, involves sterilizing the area, administering a local anesthetic, and using a scalpel or surgical scissors to cut off the skin tag.

After the removal procedure, the healthcare provider will offer post-care instructions to ensure proper healing and minimize the risk of infection. This often includes keeping the area clean and dry, applying an antibiotic ointment if necessary, and covering it with a sterile bandage if the procedure involved cutting. Patients may experience minor discomfort, redness, or swelling at the removal site, which usually subsides within a few days. In cases where cauterization or cryotherapy was used, a small blister or scab may form and fall off naturally. Follow-up visits are generally not required unless complications arise or if the patient notices any unusual symptoms, such as excessive bleeding, severe pain, or signs of infection. With proper care, most skin tag removal procedures result in minimal scarring and a quick return to normal activities.
