Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure designed to give the appearance of fuller hair on the scalp by implanting pigment into the epidermal layer of the scalp. The procedure begins with a consultation where the practitioner assesses the patient's scalp and discusses desired outcomes. A patch test may be conducted to rule out any allergic reactions to the pigments. During the actual treatment, the scalp is first cleaned and, if necessary, numbed with a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. The practitioner then uses a fine needle to meticulously deposit small dots of pigment into the scalp, mimicking the natural look of hair follicles. The size, depth, and distribution of the pigments are carefully controlled to achieve a realistic and natural look.

After the initial session, patients typically require one or two additional sessions to perfect the appearance, each spaced a few weeks apart to allow for proper healing. Post-procedure care is crucial for optimal results and generally involves keeping the scalp clean and avoiding strenuous activities that cause excessive sweating for several days. Patients are also advised to protect the scalp from direct sunlight and to avoid swimming until the scalp is fully healed. The results of SMP can last several years, but touch-up sessions may be needed over time to maintain the desired look. Properly executed, Scalp Micropigmentation can effectively camouflage thinning hair, disguising scars, and delivering a more youthful appearance.
