Revision Vaginoplasty

Revision vaginoplasty, also known as corrective or secondary vaginoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to address complications or dissatisfaction arising from a previous vaginoplasty. This procedure aims to refine the aesthetic and functional aspects of the initial surgery. It typically begins with a thorough preoperative assessment, including detailed discussions with the patient about their concerns, expectations, and desired outcomes. Preoperative planning may involve imaging studies or other diagnostic measures to understand the extent of the required corrections. Once the plan is established, the patient undergoes anesthesia, and the surgical area is prepped and sterilized.

During the surgery, the surgeon carefully revises the previous work, which may involve the excision of scar tissue, refinement of the neovaginal canal, and adjustments to the labia or clitoral hood for improved aesthetics and function. Techniques such as skin grafts or flaps can be employed to reconstruct areas requiring additional tissue. The surgeon pays meticulous attention to achieving symmetry, natural appearance, and proper vaginal depth and width. After completing the corrections, the incisions are closed with fine sutures, and the area is dressed. Postoperative care involves monitoring for complications, managing pain, and advising the patient on wound care and recovery, including dilation protocols when necessary.
