Revision Liposuction

Revision liposuction is a secondary procedure designed to correct the irregularities, asymmetries, or suboptimal results from an initial liposuction surgery. The process typically begins with a thorough consultation, where the surgeon evaluates the patient's previous liposuction outcomes, examines the areas of concern, and discusses the patient’s goals. Detailed medical history, physical exams, and sometimes imaging studies are necessary to plan the revision effectively. The surgeon then formulates a tailored plan to address irregularities, which may involve removing additional fat deposits, smoothing out uneven contours, or, in some cases, adding fat grafts to areas where too much fat was initially removed.

On the day of the surgery, the patient is administered either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the revision needed. The surgeon makes small incisions, often utilizing the existing scars from the previous operation, to minimize new scarring. Tumescent fluid may be injected to reduce bleeding and facilitate fat removal. Using thin cannulas, the surgeon meticulously suctions excess fat or corrects contour deformities with precise, controlled movements. If necessary, fat grafting is performed by harvesting fat from other areas, purifying it, and then carefully injecting it into the deficient areas to achieve a smoother, more even appearance. Post-operatively, patients are typically given compression garments to reduce swelling and support the new contours, with follow-up appointments scheduled to monitor the healing process and ensure satisfaction with the revised results.
