Resin Filling

Resin filling, also known as composite or tooth-colored filling, is a dental procedure used to restore cavities or repair damaged teeth. The procedure begins with the dentist administering local anesthesia to numb the affected area, ensuring patient comfort. After the area is thoroughly numbed, the dentist removes the decayed portion of the tooth using a dental drill or laser. Once all the decayed material is eliminated, the cavity is cleaned and disinfected to prepare for the filling. If the damage extends close to the nerve, a protective liner may be placed to shield the nerve before the resin is applied.

Next, the dentist selects a shade of composite resin that closely matches the natural color of the patient's tooth for a seamless appearance. The resin is applied in layers, with each layer being cured using a special light that hardens the material. After all the layers are applied and hardened, the dentist shapes and polishes the resin to ensure it blends smoothly with the tooth's natural contours and provides a comfortable bite. Finally, the filled tooth is evaluated for any high spots, which are adjusted if necessary, ensuring proper alignment with the patient's bite. The result is a durable, aesthetically pleasing restoration that protects the tooth and restores its functionality.
