Nose Implant
Nose Implant
A nose implant, also known as a rhinoplasty or a 'nose job,' is a surgical procedure aimed at altering or enhancing the appearance or functional aspects of the nose. The process generally involves the surgeon making cuts (incisions) inside the nostrils or at the base of the nose, through which the bone and cartilage structure of the nose can be accessed and reshaped to achieve the desired result. The surgeon can augment the shape of the nose using grafts from the patient's own body tissues such as cartilage from the ribs, ears or from a section of their own septum.
Implants, however, may also be needed for patients who do not have sufficient cartilage available from their own bodies or for those who need to significantly increase their nose size. These implants can be constructed from a range of different materials, including silicone, Gore-Tex, or Medpore. After the surgeon reshapes or augments the nose, the skin and tissue are re-draped over the new structure and the incisions are closed. In certain cases, the surgeon may also place packing or splints inside the nose to stabilize and support the new shape during the healing process. The whole procedure usually takes 2-3 hours.
