Love Band Surgery

Love Band Surgery, also known as Adjustable Gastric Banding, is a weight loss surgery where an adjustable silicone band is placed around the upper part of the stomach to create a small stomach pouch. The procedure is typically performed laparoscopically, which involves making several small incisions in the abdomen through which a laparoscope (a small camera) and surgical instruments are inserted. The band is then positioned around the upper portion of the stomach and secured in place. A tube is connected to the band and leads to a port placed under the skin. This port allows the surgeon to adjust the tightness of the band by injecting or removing saline solution when necessary. The small stomach pouch limits the amount of food one can eat and promotes the feeling of fullness sooner, thus helping in weight loss.

Post-surgery, patients typically require a period of adjustment during which they adhere to a specific diet plan, starting with liquids and gradually transitioning to solid foods as tolerated. The band’s tightness may need to be adjusted multiple times through the port to achieve the optimal restriction that facilitates weight loss while minimizing discomfort or complications. Regular follow-ups with the healthcare provider are essential to monitor the patient’s progress and make necessary adjustments. The procedure is reversible and does not involve any cutting or removal of stomach tissue or intestines, which makes it less invasive compared to other bariatric surgeries. However, success largely depends on the patient’s commitment to a healthier lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular physical activity.
