LAMS
LAMS
LAMS is a procedure that uses laser technology in order to perform minimal invasive surgeries. The primary aim of LAMS is to provide precise cuts, ablations or coagulations in the human body safely and effectively. This is executed using laser beams instead of traditional surgical instruments. The laser provides the ability for precision, which significantly reduces the risks of damage to the surrounding tissues and organs. The procedure can be used for a wide array of medical treatments including dentistry, dermatology, gynaecology, and ophthalmology among others.
The LAMS procedure typically starts with the surgeon using a laparoscope or endoscope integrated with a laser. The endoscope is inserted into the body through a small incision or natural body openings, and the surgery is carried out via a video monitor guiding the process. Laser cuts or coagulates the tissue with high energy light, creating little to no bleeding and reducing the chance of infection. Due to its minimally invasive nature, patients who undergo LAMS generally experience faster recovery times, less post-operative pain, reduced scarring and shorter hospital stays compared to those who undergo conventional surgery.
