Eyelid Fat Grafting

Eyelid fat grafting, also known as fat transfer or autologous fat injection, is a cosmetic procedure designed to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes by addressing volume loss and hollowing around the eyelids. The procedure begins with the harvesting of the patient's fat from a donor site, commonly the abdomen, thighs, or flanks, using a fine cannula attached to a syringe. This fat is then carefully processed and purified to remove blood, oil, and other impurities, transforming it into a viable graft material. Local anesthesia is typically administered to minimize discomfort during fat extraction and injection.

Once the fat is prepared, the surgeon uses a fine needle or micro-cannula to inject the purified fat into the upper or lower eyelids in a meticulous manner. This precision ensures even distribution and a natural-looking outcome, with the aim of smoothing out hollow areas, diminishing fine lines, and restoring lost volume. The procedure typically takes between one to two hours, and patients may experience some swelling and bruising post-operatively. These side effects usually subside within a week. The success of the fat grafting largely depends on how well the transferred fat survives in the new location, with most patients enjoying long-lasting, youthful results.
