Ear Plastic Surgery

Ear plastic surgery, also known as otoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve the appearance, shape, or position of the ears. The procedure usually begins with a thorough consultation where the surgeon examines the patient's ears and discusses their concerns and desired outcomes. Once a surgical plan is established, the patient is either given local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the surgery and the preference of the patient and surgeon. The procedure typically starts with an incision in the back of the ear or within the inner folds, depending on the specific techniques used. Through these incisions, the surgeon then reshapes or adjusts the cartilage and soft tissues to achieve a more balanced and proportionate ear appearance. In some cases, the surgeon may remove excess cartilage and skin, while in others, the cartilage might be folded or stitched to create a new contour.

After the reshaping is complete, the incisions are meticulously closed with sutures, and the ears are bandaged to support their new shape during the initial healing phase. Post-surgery, patients are advised to wear a headband, especially at night, to protect their ears and maintain the surgical results. Recovery time varies, but most patients can return to their regular activities within a week, although strenuous activities should be avoided for a few weeks to prevent complications. During the recovery period, follow-up appointments are crucial to monitor the healing process and remove any non-dissolvable stitches. The results of otoplasty are typically long-lasting, providing patients with a more aesthetically pleasing ear shape and improved self-confidence.
