Double Eyelid Surgery

Double eyelid surgery, also known as Asian blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at creating or enhancing the upper eyelid crease. This surgery is often sought by individuals who either have no natural crease (monolid) or want to make their existing crease more prominent. The procedure begins with a consultation where the surgeon assesses the patient’s eyelid anatomy and discusses their desired outcomes. On the day of the surgery, local anesthesia is typically administered to numb the area. The surgeon then carefully maps out where the new crease will be formed, ensuring symmetry and alignment with the patient's natural facial features.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes precise incisions along the marked lines, either on the external eyelid skin for an incisional approach or via a suture method for a non-incisional (or stitch) procedure. In the incisional technique, excess skin, fat, and muscle are removed or repositioned to create a defined crease, followed by suturing the incision lines. In the non-incisional approach, stitches are used to create small, strategic openings through which the eyelid tissue is manipulated to form the crease without removing tissue. The entire process often takes one to two hours, depending on the complexity. Post-operatively, patients may experience swelling and bruising, which typically subside within a couple of weeks, revealing a well-defined, natural-looking double eyelid. Proper aftercare, including avoiding strenuous activities and following the surgeon's guidelines, is essential for optimal recovery and results.
