Diastasis Recti Repair
Diastasis Recti Repair
Diastasis Recti Repair is a surgical procedure that aims to resolve the separation of the abdominal muscles known as diastasis recti, which commonly occurs in women due to pregnancy. It is often performed as a part of a cosmetic abdominal procedure termed as a "tummy tuck", but can also be performed as a stand-alone surgery. During the procedure, general anesthesia is administered, and a horizontal or vertical incision is made in the lower part of the abdomen. The skin is lifted to expose the abdominal muscles, which are then stitched together to reduce the gap.
Post-operation, patients are usually required to wear a compression garment to support the healing of tissues and to reduce swelling. Depending on the extent of the diastasis recti and the surgical technique used, recovery time may vary from a few weeks to several months. Activities that exert pressure on the abdomen, such as lifting heavy objects, bending, and intense exercises, are prohibited for a certain period after the surgery. Strict adherence to post-operation instructions and regular follow-up consultations are key to quick recovery and achieving optimal results.
