Cleft Rhinoplasty

Cleft rhinoplasty is a specialized surgical procedure performed to correct nasal deformities associated with cleft lip and palate, providing both functional and cosmetic improvements. The procedure typically begins with a thorough preoperative assessment, including detailed imaging and planning. On the day of surgery, the patient is placed under general anesthesia to ensure comfort and immobility. The surgeon makes precise incisions, often within the nostrils (endonasal approach) or along the columella (open approach), to access the underlying nasal structures. The goal is to reconstruct and reposition the nasal cartilage and bones to correct asymmetries and improve airway function. The surgeon may graft tissue from the patient's ear or rib to provide additional structure.

Once the necessary adjustments are made, the incisions are meticulously closed using fine sutures to minimize scarring. The nose is then supported with splints or nasal packing to maintain its new shape and promote proper healing. Postoperative care includes managing swelling and pain with prescribed medications, regular follow-up visits to monitor healing, and avoiding activities that might impact the nose. Cleft rhinoplasty is complex and requires a highly skilled surgeon, often working in a multidisciplinary team, to achieve optimal results. Long-term follow-ups are essential to ensure the functional and aesthetic outcomes are maintained as the patient grows.
