Capsular Contracture Treatment
Capsular Contracture Treatment
Capsular contracture treatment typically involves surgical intervention to address the condition, which is a complication arising from breast augmentation surgery. This condition is characterized by the hardening of the breast due to the tightening of the scar tissue, or capsule, that forms around the implants. The primary aim of this treatment is to restore the softness and natural appearance of the augmented breasts, and to alleviate the discomfort and potential distortion associated with the condition. There are several surgical options available, including Capsulectomy (total removal of the scar tissue), Capsulotomy (scar tissue release), implant replacement or removal, or a combination of these procedures.
The exact procedure used for capsular contracture treatment depends on the surgeon and the individual case. During Capsulectomy, the surgeon removes the entire scar tissue capsule, replacing it with a new implant and possibly utilizing a special surgical wrap to lower the risk of recurrent contracture. In Capsulotomy, the surgeon cuts into the scar tissue to release tension and expand the space, leaving the capsule in place. Alternatively, the implant may be removed or replaced, depending on the severity of the contracture and the patient's wishes. Post-surgery, the patient may be prescribed additional treatments such as medication or physical therapy to manage inflammation and maintain the softness of the breast.
