Buccal fat removal, also known as buccal lipectomy or cheek reduction surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to thin and refine the lower part of the face, enhancing facial contour and definition. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation, although general anesthesia may be used in some cases. The surgeon begins by making small incisions, usually about 1 to 2 centimeters long, inside the patient's mouth on the inner portion of the cheeks, which eliminates any visible scarring on the face. Swelling and mild discomfort are common in the initial days post-surgery, and patients are advised to follow a soft or liquid diet to avoid irritation to the surgical sites. Full results, with noticeable cheek contouring and reduced fullness, usually become visible within a few weeks to months as swelling diminishes completely.
