Braces

The procedure for getting braces typically begins with a comprehensive orthodontic consultation. During this initial appointment, the orthodontist conducts a thorough examination of the patient's teeth, jaws, and mouth. This may include taking X-rays, photographs, and dental impressions to create detailed models of the patient's teeth. Based on this initial assessment, the orthodontist develops a customized treatment plan that outlines the type of braces required, estimated duration of treatment, and any other necessary dental appliances. This is also the stage where any necessary preparatory work, such as extractions or fillings, is identified and scheduled.

The second phase involves the actual placement of the braces. This procedure usually takes about one to two hours and is performed in the orthodontist's office. First, the teeth are cleaned and dried thoroughly. Then, a special glue is applied to attach the brackets to each tooth. The orthodontist carefully positions each bracket and uses a curing light to harden the adhesive. Once all the brackets are in place, the orthodontist threads the archwire through the brackets and secures it with small elastic bands. Adjustments and tightening will be scheduled periodically over the next several months to years, during which the braces will gradually move the teeth into their desired positions. Proper oral hygiene and regular check-ups are essential throughout the treatment to ensure that the teeth and gums remain healthy.
