Belly Button Surgery
Belly Button Surgery
Belly button surgery, also known as umbilicoplasty or navel surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that improves the size, shape, or position of the belly button. The procedure begins with the surgeon making a small incision either inside the belly button or on the surrounding abdominal skin. Once the incision has been made, protruding umbilical stalks or excessive skin tissues are adjusted or removed according to the planned aesthetic shape. After the reshaping or resizing work, the incision is stitched up with dissolvable sutures. Depending upon the complexity of the procedure, it may last anywhere from around 30 minutes to an hour and is often performed under local anesthesia.
While belly button surgery can be done alone to make a cosmetic change to the navel, it can also commonly be combined with other body contouring procedures like a tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck. A tummy tuck, which is designed to flatten the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin and strengthening the abdominal wall muscles, can often lead to the navel being repositioned or altered in shape or size. When combined with a tummy tuck, the belly button surgery can help ensure that the new navel is in a natural and more aesthetically pleasing position, completing the more streamlined and attractive look of the newly contoured abdomen.
