Areola Surgery

Areola surgery, also referred to as areola reduction or areola resizing, is a cosmetic procedure designed to alter the size, shape, or appearance of the areola, the pigmented area surrounding the nipple. This procedure typically begins with a thorough consultation between the patient and the surgeon to discuss the desired outcome, medical history, and any potential risks. On the day of the surgery, the patient is usually placed under local anesthesia, though general anesthesia can be an option for some cases. The surgeon marks the new areola size on the skin using a special tool or template to ensure symmetry and precision.

The surgical procedure itself involves making an incision around the existing areola. The surgeon then removes excess tissue and skin to achieve the desired size and shape. In some cases, the surgeon may also use a periareolar incision, which encircles the outer edge of the areola, to minimize visible scarring. The remaining tissue is carefully sutured to the new circumference, often employing dissolvable stitches. Post-operative care includes instructions on cleaning the surgical site, avoiding strenuous activities, and monitoring for signs of infection. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to ensure proper healing and to evaluate the aesthetic results. The procedure usually yields a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing areola that aligns with the patient's preferences and body contours.
